
2016 Food Fight is Excited to Announce a Partnership With the Capital Area Food Bank

The leadership at 2016 Food FIght recognizes that there are hunger related issues right here in Northern Virginia and throughout the Washington, DC area. In fact, according to the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) 700,000 residents are at risk of hunger. we want to serve those in need in own backyard as well. With this understanding and appreciation we have partnered with the Capital Area Food Bank to collect and distrubte food to the local food pantries as part of 2016 Food Fight!
We are asking everyone that comes out to pack food to bring one or more items from CAFB's Most Wanted list with an emphasis on healthy food:

Canned Salmon, Tuna or Chicken

Low Sodium, No Salt Added Canned Vegetables

Canned Fruit in Light Syrup (or its own juices)

Brown and White Rice, Pasta, Mac and Cheese

Hot and Cold Cereal e.g. oatmeal, Corn Flakes, Raisin Bran, Cheerios

Canned or Dry Beans

Healthy Snacks e.g. apple sauce cups, raisins, granola bars

Peanut Butter
-
Juices - all sizes including juice boxes.

The Capital Area Food Bank is the largest organization in the Washington metro area working to solve hunger and its companion problems: chronic undernutrition, heart disease, and obesity. By partnering with 444 community organizations in DC, MD, and VA, as well as delivering food directly into hard to reach areas, the CAFB is helping 540,000 people each year get access to good, healthy food. That’s 12% of our region’s mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, and grandparents.
